Android On-Board Chrysler: What You Need to Know

A partnership between Fiat Chrysler and Harman (Samsung) and Google will see select Fiat vehicles rolling out with a fully integrated, faster, and more convenient customer experience starting in the second half of 2019. By 2022, Chrysler’s entire fleet of vehicles will offer it.

The current Uconnect system will continue to utilize Google’s Android-based system to provide owners with an intuitive app-based environment. Over-the-air software updates will ensure owners have access to the newest capabilities and latest software applications, while 4G connectivity will also be featured with systems in place to support 5G as it evolves. Here’s what else you need to know about the upcoming changes.

Stay Connected

Uconnect lets you stay connected while driving and includes services like 9-1-1 Call, which allows you to report an emergency while keeping your eyes on the road. Remote Vehicle Start lets you start your vehicle from a computer or the Uconnect app, while Stolen Vehicle Assistance provides your stolen vehicle’s position to assist law enforcement in locating it. Vehicle Finder eliminates aimlessly walking through parking lots looking for your car.  

Your Personal Assistant

Thanks to this new partnership, you’ll be able to lock your vehicle’s door from wherever you are with Remote Door Lock and Unlock. You’ll have the option to prompt the lights to flash and horn to sound from a distance with Remote Horn and Lights, and you’ll even be able to find a restaurant by merely asking Yelp.

Drive Rating

A new Uconnect benefit, this usage-based insurance program provides eligible owners a chance to get feedback on driving habits and potentially receive insurance discounts. Once enrolled, driving data such as hard braking, GPS coordinates, speed, and fast acceleration are collected over 90 days. Information is only shared with insurance companies with your permission for personalized quotes.

Vehicle Health Report and Vehicle Health Alert

Each month, you’ll receive a Vehicle Health Report, which is a summary on the performance of key systems within your vehicle. This report will allow you to stay on top of your maintenance schedule. Your vehicle will even let you know when something needs your attention by sending a Vehicle Health Alert.

An Unlimited 3G WI-FI Hotspot

With a 3G Wi-Fi Hotspot subscription, you will have Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity in your vehicle on demand. Once registered, all you’ll have to do is turn your signal on and connect the desired device. Your passengers can even join in the on fun of surfing the web, shopping, and checking emails by connecting to the 3G Wi-Fi Hotspot.

Staying connected has never been easier, thanks to the Uconnect App. Once installed, you can use your smartphone to find your vehicle, lock or unlock your vehicle, start your engine, and search for your next location.
