Chrysler Portal Concept Electric VehicleWith a lineup consisting of only the Pacifica minivan and the 300, Chrysler’s future needed a jump start with fresh and innovative designs. With engineers focused on going green, the news about Chrysler’s electric vehicles has enthusiasts excited to learn more about the Portal concept.

Phasing Out the 300

With executives previously stating the uncertainty of the 300’s future — due to the model no longer fitting with Chrysler’s desire to be a “people movers” brand — it comes as no surprise this model is anticipated to be phased out by 2020. This move will leave the Chrysler brand with only one vehicle.

Media sites are reporting the Chrysler Portal Concept is slated to go into production in 2020, relieving the Pacifica of the pressure of carrying the Chrysler brand alone. While little information is known about the details of the production model, automotive experts do know that it will be an electric vehicle similar to the concept debuted at the 2017 Consumer Electrics Show.

Potentially, this could be a wise move since Waymo and Chrysler have an impressive partnership, but the Alphabet-owned company tapped the Jaguar Land Rover recently to provide 20,000 Jaguar I-Pace electric cars. The decision to move the Portal into production would provide Waymo with an even more eco-friendly choice than the existing Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan.

The Chrysler Portal Concept

To design the next generation of family transportation, FCA sought the fresh ideas and collaboration of millennials working within its engineering and design functions. These ideas resulted in the concept of the Chrysler Portal: a vehicle designed by millennials for millennials.

Millennials are a cost-conscious, environmentally-aware, and tech-savvy generation. The Chrysler Portal concept was created to address these needs and to explore the possibility of what a family-friendly car should look like for the lifestyle of the millennial generation.

The technology, adaptability, and flexibility features also make the Chrysler Portal concept ideal for commercial and business applications including delivery services, car sharing, and ride-hailing.

The Chrysler Portal concept was designed in partnership with supplier partners who shared their expertise and innovation in bringing future technologies to life.
