Electrical problems are the bane of any driver. They seem to strike with little warning and create faults and problems in your car. Fortunately, if you’re having a problem in Sallisaw, OK, your trusted Chrysler dealer is here to fix them for you. This is our advice on signs you could have an electrical problem.

Advice From Your Chrysler Dealer: Signs Your Car Has Electrical Problems

Damaged Electrical Connections

Your alternator produces electrical power for your car’s systems. This power is transferred from the alternator to the systems via a vast network of wires and cables. The wiring, in turn, has switches, relays, and other connectors that join the components and the whole system together. An engine isn’t a healthy place for electrical systems, as it’s hot, dirty, and filled with constant movement from components.

In time, connectors can corrode, and switches can fail. These failures will shut down systems and components suddenly deprived of their electricity supply. The connections can also loosen over time, especially if they’re in an area of your engine subject to any vibrations. We can test the connectors, and clean, tighten, or replace them to fix this problem.

Dead Battery

A dead battery is a major headache since you’ll need a jump start to get your car moving. A battery can die due to age, and if it’s over three years old, this is the most common reason for failure. The average battery life is from three to five years. Your battery can also fail due to a worn alternator or loose or corroded battery cables.

The battery cables connect your battery to the rest of the electrical charging system. Slight vibrations in the engine bay from your car’s movement can gradually loosen these cables. Electricity requires an uninterrupted connection to flow effectively. A tiny gap between the terminals and a cable can break the electrical circuit, and your battery will fail. Our technicians can test the cables and refit or replace them if there’s a problem.

Blown Fuses

Fuses are an important part of any electrical system, as they protect electrical components from damage. Spikes, electrical shorts, and other shifts in the power sys can damage sensitive electrical components. Any unusual electrical flow can blow the fuse. This protects the component attached to the fuse from damage but switches it off until the fuse is replaced.

A component that shuts down due to a blown fuse will cause further problems. The alternator, for example, produces your car’s electricity. If its fuse blows, your car immediately loses its electrical power supply, and the battery will drain. We can quickly test for blown fuses and replace any we find.
