1. Wild Horse Mountain Bar-B-Que

Found in eastern Oklahoma within the foothills of the Wild Horse Mountain range is the infamous Wild Horse Mountain Bar-B-Que. Their renowned barbecue sauce — the legacy of Betty and Hubert Holman — has had diners coming for over 50 years to taste poured on their favorite meat.

The simple menu focuses on what they do best, Bar-B-Que, featuring mild, medium, and hot beef sandwiches, barbecue beans, and barbecue beef and pork rib dinners. Those looking to take the flavor home with them can purchase sliced beef, chopped beef, and pork ribs by the pound all coming with enough Wild Horse Mountain Bar-B-Que sauce to make everyone happy.

Located at S 4612 Road in Sallisaw, they are open Tuesday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

2. JJ Wing Shack

Known for their homemade sauces that they create with the rarest peppers grown locally, JJ Wing Shack provides guests with a unique wing-eating experience.  Opened in 2015 by life-long friends with a love of great food, JJ’s menu features a wide selection of appetizers as well as wraps, catfish, and shrimp.

Located at 211 N. Oak St. in Sallisaw, JJ Wing Shack is open Sunday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 9 p.m.

3. Olde Feed Barn

Voted best burgers in town, this family owned and operated restaurant combines the vintage appeal of a 50’s diner with hometown hospitality. Customers place their orders at the lobby window while friendly waitstaff delivers the food and drink to the table. In addition to the selection of burgers, guests can also enjoy salad, poutine, and fish.

Located at 702 E. Cherokee Ave. in Sallisaw, Olde Feed Barn is open Monday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

4. Charlie’s Chicken & Barbeque

Guests at Charlie’s Chicken and Barbeque can enjoy an excellent selection of made-to-order fried chicken along with more than 10 home-style side options, pies, and cobblers. In addition to enjoying the food in a comfortable dining area, guests can also order via the drive-thru.

Located at 720 W. Cherokee Ave. in Sallisaw, Charlie’s Chicken and Barbeque is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The buffet hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

5. Shad’s Catfish Hole

Shad’s Catfish Hole is a hidden gem that offers a delicious dining experience. While fish and fries come plated according to orders, beans, slaw, and other sides are served family style at the table.

Located at S Hwy 59, Sallisaw, Shad’s Catfish Hole is open Wednesday through Saturday from 4:30 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
