Blue Ribbon Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram

Jul 16, 2021

The Dodge Durango is the most powerful three-row SUV on the market. The entry-level engine is a V-6, where most SUVs start with a four-cylinder, and you can upgrade to a 5.7-liter V-8 or a 6.4-liter V-8. For 2021 Dodge even offers the SRT with the supercharged V-8 Hellcat engine. Additional changes for 2021 include an upgraded towing package with the power to tow more, updates in the cabin, and upgrades to the Durango’s exterior.

The Model Lineup

The entry-level Durango is the SXT. It has LED headlights, LED fog lights, 18-inch wheels, and keyless entry. The GT adds a black grille, black window trim, and 20-inch wheels, while the R/T comes with a sunroof and LED accent lights. Stepping up to the Citadel gets you chrome exterior trim elements, a sunroof, and a trailering package. The top-level SRT and SRT Hellcat add an adaptive suspension and Brembo brakes.

The Engine Lineup

The base engine for the Durango lineup is a 3.6-liter V-6 gas engine that develops 295 horsepower. It works with Dodge’s eight-speed automatic transmission and comes with rear-wheel drive. The R/T exchanges the V-6 for a 5.7-liter V-8 engine that puts out 360 horsepower, and this also works with the eight-speed automatic. The SRT gets its power from a 6.4-liter V-8 engine with 475 horsepower, and the new SRT Hellcat has a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 that makes 710 horsepower.

The Towing Capacity

The Durango can tow more than any other vehicle in its class. When equipped with the V-6, it can pull up to 6,200 pounds. If you have a model with the 5.7-liter V-8, it can tow up to 7,200 pounds with all-wheel drive and 7,400 pounds with rear-wheel drive. The new Tow N Go package for the 2021 model increases the R/T’s towing capacity to 8,700 pounds.

The Cabin Features

Inside, the Durango has either two rows and room for five or three rows and room for seven. Cloth upholstery comes standard, along with three-zone automatic climate control and push-button start. A power-adjustable driver’s seat is optional for the SXT. The GT offers the option for leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. You can also get a power-adjustable steering wheel in the GT or step up to the R/T, where it comes standard.

The tech features you get in the Durango start with an 8.4-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, USB-A and USB-C ports, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Safety Features

Every 2021 Durango comes with a rearview camera. The SRT Plus adds parking sensors, and these come standard with the GT. Optional safety features for the GT include a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beam headlights, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Adding the Technology Group to the GT gets you adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking.

The 2021 Dodge Durango has tons of power and a sleek style inside and out. It’s an ideal vehicle for drivers who want the utility of an SUV but the performance of a sports car.
