Two Burgers Next to the hot dog, there may be no food more American than the hamburger. Not all burgers are created equal, though, and you deserve the best. So for the next time you’re itching for a juicy, well-seasoned burger, here are the three best places for burgers in and around Sallisaw.

Olde Feed Barn

Nowhere in Sallisaw can satisfy that burger craving quite like Olde Feed Barn. Located at 702 East Cherokee Ave, Olde Feed Barn is a family-owned-and-operated business with a staff that will make you feel right at home. See for yourself why Olde Feed Barn is a local favorite by trying the classic bacon cheeseburger, hamburger steak, chili burger, onion burger, or Thousand Island burger.

Not feeling a burger? Olde Feed has you covered. Try their chicken fried steak covered in thick gravy, chicken nuggets, chicken sandwich, chicken salad, or catfish. Whatever you choose, top it all off with a side of chili cheese tots.

Ed Walker’s Drive-In

For some of the greatest burgers in the area, you’re going to have to travel outside of Sallisaw to nearby Fort Smith. At 1500 Towson Ave, you’ll find Ed Walker’s Drive-In, a classic drive-in that has been serving Fort Smith residents since 1943, making it the oldest restaurant in Fort Smith. Ed Walker’s stays true to its roots as a drive-in: all you have to do when you pull up is flash your lights and you’ll receive fast, friendly service.

Satisfy your burger craving at Ed’s by trying the Razorback Burger, Hot Mama Burger, Mushroom Swiss Burger, Levi Burger, or the classic Cheeseburger. If you’re not feeling burgers, then Ed’s still has plenty to offer, from its Frito Chili Pie to its ribs to its pastrami on rye. Wash that food down with one of Ed Walker’s fresh brews and finish off your meal with a strawberry shortcake or a malt.

George’s Restaurant

George’s Restaurant may not have been around for as long as Ed Walker’s Drive-In, but this Fort Smith favorite has still been serving delectable dishes for almost forty years. Located at 2120 Grand Ave, George’s was established by Catsavis brothers, and the Catsavis family continues to own and run George’s. Generations of hard work and delicious food have even led to George’s being inducted into the Entertainment Fort Smith’s Hall of Fame for Best Burger.

Start your meal at George’s off right with some gravy fries, quesadillas, or nachos. But don’t get too full, because you’ll need room for these juicy burgers. Try the spicy Jalapeno Burger, the smoky Hickory Cheese Burger, or the Big George Cheese Burger which comes with triple meat for the hungriest customers. Complement your burger with a fresh salad, like the Doc Mitchell Salad, the classic Chef Salad, or a crunchy Taco Salad.

With these three classic restaurants, you can both support local businesses and satisfy your burger craving with dishes that are locally authentic and all-around delicious. But be warned: once you try a burger at these restaurants, all other burgers will simply fall short.
